Ambassador-designates for Japan, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Republic of Kosovo are scheduled to visit Rarotonga next week to present their Letters of Credence to the King’s Representative, Sir Tom Marsters during a ceremony facilitated by Te Kauono Tutara e te Mana Tiaki – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration (MFAI).

Ambassador-designates include His Excellency Mr Makoto Osawa, Ambassador-designate for Japan, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Van Trung, Ambassador-designate for the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and Her Excellency Jetmira Bërdynaj Shala, Ambassador-designate for the Republic of Kosovo.

Upon presenting their Letters of Credence to King's Representative, His Excellency Sir Tom Marsters, all Ambassador-designates are able to engage officially with representatives of the Cook Islands Government.

During their visit, all three Ambassador-designates will call on Foreign Secretary Tepaeru Herrmann and Minister of Foreign Affairs & Immigration the Hon. Tingika Elikana. The Ambassador-designates will also meet with select government, business, and civil society representatives depending on areas of co-operation interest for the Cook Islands and the counterpart country.

“While government to government business is transacted daily through various portals, appointed diplomatic envoys such as the three Ambassador-designates visiting next week have specific responsibilities and elevated mandates from their respective governments,” said MFAI Secretary Tepaeru Herrmann.  “We therefore look forward to discussing with each Ambassador-designate current and possible future areas of co-operation we might jointly work on together in the coming months that will benefit our people.”
