The relationship between the Cook Islands and New Zealand is both unique and very close, built on shared citizenship, culture, family links, history, and trade. New Zealand is the only country to have established a diplomatic post in the Cook Islands.

Pacific Relations

The Cook Islands has formally established diplomatic relations with the following countries in the Pacific:      

 Australia     1994
 Fiji 1998
 New Zealand 1993
 Nauru 1994
 Papua New Guinea 1995

The Cook Islands engages with the other 17 Pacific Island countries and Territories primarily through the CROP (Committee of Regional Organizations of the Pacific) family of agencies such as the PIFS, FFA, FSM, SOPAC, SPC, SPREP, South Pacific.travel and USP.
